What Must I Do to be Saved?

The Bible, God’s Word, provides a clear answer to this question. Here are the simple steps from the Bible that everyone must take to be saved.

Acknowledge Your Sin

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

First, see yourself for what you are…a sinner (separated from God at birth-- because of the sin of the first man, Adam). Sin is devastating and evil; it corrupts and destroys lives. It has devastating eternal consequences: "...the soul that sinneth, it shall die." (Ezekiel 18:4) "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

Believe in Jesus Christ

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Believe in the completed work that Christ accomplished on the cross. You must believe that Christ substituted Himself for you, that He died for your sins (though He never sinned), and that He was raised from the dead for your new life. "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)

Confess Jesus Christ as your Lord

If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord", and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 NIV

You must believe in Christ and receive Him personally into your life by faith if you are to be saved from the power and consequences of sin. Pray this prayer to the Lord:

"Lord Jesus, I am convinced that I am a sinner and that you alone can save me. I willingly repent of my sinful life and believe that you died for me. I believe that You were raised from the dead; I confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. I accept you as my personal Savior. I receive Your gift of salvation by faith in my heart. I thank You that I have forgiveness of my sins, and that I have eternal life in Jesus. Amen"
